11 PLUS FOR PARENTS; ALTRINCHAM SELECTIVE;SCHOOLS, CHESHIRE/TRAFFORD

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls and Loreto Grammar School for Girls are both single-sex grammar schools. Altrincham Grammar School for Girls allocates 175 places in Year 7, whilst Loreto Grammar School for Girls allocates only 150 places in Year 7. Altrincham Grammar School for Girls follows the CEM (University of Durham) 11 plus selection test, whilst Loreto Grammar School for Girls follows the GL Assessment (University of Edinburgh) 11 plus selection test.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Saint Ambrose College are also both single-sex grammar schools. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys allocates 175 places in Year 7, whilst Saint Ambrose College allocates only 150 places in Year 7. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys follows the GL Assessment (University of Edinburgh) 11 plus selection test, whilst Saint Ambrose College write their own 11 plus selection test.

WHAT IS ALTRINCHAM LIKE?

Altrincham is a town south of the River Mersey in Trafford, Greater Manchester. The population was just below 53000 after the last census in 2011. It is an affluent commuter town with strong transport links. It has three Ice Hockey clubs and is home to many middle-class citizens. It has it’s own Music Festival that takes place in August. Altrincham is known for its historic market that was set up over 700 years ago. On the town’s outskirts lies the infamous Dunham Massey Hall which was built in the 18th Century.

There are eight Secondary Schools in Altrincham, where five of them are Grammar Schools. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Girls has Specialist Status in Languages. Loreto Grammar School has Specialist Status in Science and Maths. St Ambrose College has Specialist Status in Maths and Computing. All the four grammar schools were rating as Outstanding by Ofsted during their last visit.
